Nahr al-Kabir : ウィキペディア英語版 | Nahr al-Kabir al-Janoubi Nahr al-Kabir al-Janoubi (Arabic for ''the southern great river'', النهر الكبير الجنوبي) is a river in the Middle East flowing into the Mediterranean Sea. The river flows through the Homs Gap. The river forms the northern part of the border between modern day Lebanon and Syria. In antiquity the river was known as Eleutherus.〔Josephus, The Jewish War 1:363 pg 75 Translated by G.A.Williamson 1959, printed 1981〕 (Eleutheros, Eleuteris, Ελεύθερος, Ελευθερίς in Ancient Greek) and is referred to as such in the apocryphal 1 Maccabees 11:7 and 12:30.
